I am slipping my ripples under the wire for this week’s IF prompt. Syl and I marbleized paper using oil paints. They still aren’t dry. When they are we’ll add sea creatures to them and send the images to Kelly Light’s  Ripple blog.  She is selling donated sketchcards to raise money for  The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies and The International Bird Rescue Research Center.  It is a brilliant and generous idea. Check it out and get yourself a little artwork.

ps. Is it just me or can you also see the eerie faces in the swirls above?

  1. Wow! that’s a great technique. And ever so appropriate for this weeks word. How do you do that?

    1. Thanks Stephen! I poured oil paint mixed with linseed oil and thinned with turpenoid into a bowl of water, mixed it up and swirled it around, then laid pieces of watercolor paper on top and peeled them off. The paint sticks to the paper. Click on my flicker badge for photos of the process. At first we used a comb to make traditional marbled paper patterns, but that looked too pretty for what we intended.

      1. thanks, I’ll have to try that out.

  2. I thought they were close ups of shells at first. Great idea.

  3. these are really lovely

  4. i see lots of things in those swirls! they are mesmerizing!

  5. Thank you all. They are still not dry.

  6. Phhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhow!
